La estatua del Oso y el Madroño es una estatua de bronce de 4 metros de altura realizada por el escultor español Antonio Navarro Santafé (1906-1983). Fue ordenado por la sección de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Madrid, que quería representar los principales símbolos heráldicos de la ciudad y de España con un monumento. La estatua fue inaugurada en 1967 y colocada aquí en la Plaza Puerta del Sol. La leyenda detrás de la estatua La historia del oso y el madroño data del siglo XIII. El oso y el madroño llegaron a ser el símbolo de Madrid debido a un acuerdo entre el municipio y el clero de Madrid. Habían estado discutiendo sobre quién era el propietario legítimo de ciertos territorios que fue otorgado a Madrid por el rey Alfonso VIII. Después de 20 años de disputas, hicieron el acuerdo de entregar los pastos al clero y los árboles al municipio. El escudo de Madrid refleja así este acuerdo con el oso que representa al clero y el árbol que representa al municipio.

The Statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree is a 4-meter-tall bronze statue made by the Spanish sculptor Antonio Navarro Santafé (1906-1983).
